MLC attends Motorcycle Awareness Proclaimation in Pearland

Several Mid Life Cycle members attended the Pearland council meeting on May 12th to witness the mayor's Proclaimation on Motorcycle Awareness. After a Chamber of Commerce meeting the mayor spoke with fellow chamber and new MLC member John Baxter. On a side note, John and his wife will be joining us for our Arkansas trip and are looking forward to it. Now, back to the story, they had a conversation about a friend that had a car pull out in front of him and was hit. After that conversation and about a 1/4 mile down the road, a car pulled right out in front of one of our new members. The mayor just happened to be right behind him and was was upset himself with what he had just witnessed. Thus the Proclaimation. MLC may end up getting a color copy of the document.

JAH, Denise, George & Nancy, Mick, Brian & Earlene, Lee, Drew, Spongebob and a couple of other bikers joined John Baxter as he was presented the Proclaimation. The mayor said he should get it since what happened to him prompted the Proclaimation. After the presentation John said a few words about the incident and how most motorcyclist are riding safe and want to be seen , for others to share the road and drive aware. When he closed his comments he offered the floor to me and at the elbowing of some of the group I said a few words as well. We were glad we showed up so the mayor had a portion of the audience that understands exactly what he was talking about. His message did not fall on deaf ears. He acknowledged us, and was very warm to those who stood with John. Others in the group wondered if we could have the same sort of affect in other surrounding cities. I am not sure, but what I do know is that by being in the public eye, in this setting or even in the Holiday Parade, we keep motorcycles in the eyes of others. We let them know, we are out there. Afterwards, those that could rode over to Sonic and enjoyed some good ol' burgers and such outside. A double meat jalapeno cheeseburger with tater tots and a cherry limeaide was a great way to end the evening. Thanks to those who came last night and John, we are very glad you did not get hurt!
